We took the back roads on this trip. Snaking our way through the blue highways provided unparalleled opportunities to stop, see, explore, gawk, and otherwise experience Small-Town America. There is always something along the highway, even if it is just roadkill. Shannan and I made a pact on this trip. She initiated the agreement shortly after listening to me bemoan my failure to stop the car and look. When I start driving I fall victim to a destination mindset: "I must get there!" When that happens I don't slow down to take a picture of a car, read a historic marker, or enjoy an unhurried meal at a local diner.
